Visit to Presdales by artist Fleur Deakin.
A workshop exploring collage techniques fired Presdales students with enthusiasm & gave them the confidence to experiment with a new medium.
Artist Fleur Deakin worked with 22 examination students using a variety of fabrics, papers, tin foil as well as photographs and biros to create vibrant & textured pieces of artwork. The students enjoyed working alongside a practising artist & heard about her work and career. Those interested in a career in Art were particularly eager to hear how she had become a professional artist.
Students found Fleur Deakin, who has exhibited her work both with the Liberty Gallery and at the International Art Fair (at the Royal College of Art), really approachable & friendly. They seized the opportunity to bring in a photograph of their choice and create a collage over this image.
Fleur Deakin described the day as fantastic and said that the students were incredibly responsive and had worked really hard. One Year 12 student said, ‘I’m used to creating large pieces; I don’t really do layering so this was completely different and I’ve really enjoyed it.’
The all day workshop was held on Wednesday 9th March and was open to students in years 10 and 12. Head of Art, Ashley Page, was delighted with the resulting artwork and said, ‘It’s been a memorable day. Fleur has invited us to visit her and has offered future work experience to interested students. It’s such an exciting opportunity.’
